Back out in the country the lockeepers took great pride in their cottages - this looked very inviting on a hot summers day.
We invested in a sun brolly for the back to give Paul some shade while travelling along. At 9ft by 6ft it was a perfect fit & a bargain for 15 euros or about £10
The little town of Moret-sur-Loing was well worth a visit a visit with a water wheel, weirs & lots of old buildings. The minicipal flower arrangements very spectacular & a riot of colour.
The local kids had a great time using the weir as a slide.
We moored up next to a small airfield on the way out of Roanne where they were doing trial microlight flights. We were in the air for about 20 minutes & the view was fantastic of the canal & river. The sand mines looked very weird from above!
There are lots of magnificent chateaux in France - some open to the public - others still used as private homes. Unfortunately most are on the tops of hills so can only be visited after a long walk up from the canals.
We felt we needed a dog on board so got this little St Bernard puppy. He was so lifelike lots of passers by tried to get him to wake up & one lockeeper even got as far as stroking him before realising he was a stuffed toy.
